DNA strand

DNA strand
Цепь, нить ДНК — линейная полимерная молекула ДНК. Выделяют:
а) кодирующую Ц. (coding strand)- нить двухцепочечной ДНК, несущей информацию о синтезе белковой молекулы;
б) комплементарные Ц. (complementary strands), характеризующиеся тем, что если в одной из них в к.-то месте стоит аденин (A), то в другой в этом месте должен стоять тимин (T) и наоборот, т. е. так, чтобы между основаниями могли образовываться специфические водородные связи. Точно так же напротив гуанина (G) в др. Ц. должен быть цитозин (C) и наоборот. Комплементарность очень важна для копирования (репликации, см.) ДНК;
в) некодирующая Ц. (non-coding strand) — Ц. двухцепочечной ДНК, комплементарная кодирующей Ц., но не используемая для синтеза молекулы белка.
